In essence “What’s not working and what is more likely to help?”

David W. Scandinaro, M.D.

Board Certified in Child, Adolescent, and Adult Psychiatry

BIO: Dr. Scandinaro has been a practicing psychiatrist for almost 40 years and recently retired from delivering direct patient care at his private practice in Worthington, Ohio. He has been chosen by his peers for inclusion in “BEST DOCTORS IN AMERICA” for over the last 20 years. Most importantly, Dr. Scandinaro has been gratified to significantly help many patients and their families over these years. He considers it an honor to have been offered the opportunity.

Dr. Scandinaro has worked in various treatment settings and has been a medical director of several Child and Adolescent programs. He has worked as a Clinical Adjunct Professor of Psychiatry at the Ohio State University Medical Center for over 25 years, supervising psychiatric residents in Adult psychodynamic psychotherapy.

Dr. Scandinaro has worked intensively with many patients of all ages and their families, is well versed in the BIO-PSYCHO-SOCIAL diagnostic model, and tailoring the optimal treatment modality to any given patient (and their family if indicated). Further, he continues to educate himself to understand and find the best way to provide effective interventions. Patients have consistently valued his ability to empathically listen and communicate.

NEW ROLE AND RECENT EXPERIENCE: Access to Behavioral Health Providers is very limited. To address that shortage, over the last year Dr. Scandinaro has piloted working with numerous patients and families to offer Consultations. Working through their established providers or making specific referrals he has been successful in extending his experience and expertise by helping these providers deliver the optimal care for these patients.

Dr. Scandinaro promptly responds to either emails to [email protected] or texts to 614-578-1010, to assess and begin the process of offering the consultation. He has established an encrypted email communication service to facilitate the transfer of Patient Health Information. After sessions he follows up the next day with a several paragraph encrypted email reflection on the prior days session to help focus the Consultation process for subsequent sessions. Patients have experienced both sessions and these reflections as therapeutic even though the work is Consultation and no treatment relationship is established.

CONSULTATION MECHANICS:

Dr. Scandinaro is offering Psychiatric Consultations via videoconference or in person to referrals in the state of Ohio. These assessments are consultative and no ongoing treatment relationship will be established. These consultations will occur over two 1 hour sessions and with a subsequent communication with the established provider. Therefore, the referral is best initiated by the present provider.

FOR PROVIDERS:  Consultations aim to provide additional insight, understanding, diagnostic conceptualization, and recommendations regarding both treatment and medication recommendations.

These services are offered to a wide range of providers, including psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, internists, pediatricians, social workers, and counselors who may seek second opinions regarding diagnosis, medication management, treatment options, and who encounter other clinical issues for which additional input may be helpful.

FOR PATIENTS (PARENTS): This additional review and reflection by a highly experienced Child, Adolescent, and Adult Psychiatrist may well offer a guide for you and your provider to help optimize the treatment and provide a useful therapeutic touchstone. Given the complexity of Clinical issues and presentations a fresh look can often be very helpful.
